2016 Villa Calcinaia Chianti Classico Riserva
Description
This wine is usually produced from the best parts of old vines with the sunniest exposition in the estate owned by the Conti Capponi near Greve in Chianti. The color of Villa Calcinaia’s Chianti Classico Riserva is rich-ruby, whilst the bouquet is mature in its fruit, well blended with the oak. The taste of the wine is soft, velvety. The structure is solid and the wood well integrated. The finish is spicy and persistent.
Production method
Harvested by hand with grape selection. Fermented and aged separately based on the area of harvest. Aged for 20 months in French oak tonneaux and Slavonian oak casks. After the cuvee is made the wine ages for another 4/6 months before bottling.
Rating
89/100 James Suckling – “Blueberries, walnuts and some bark on the nose, following through to a medium-bodied, slightly lean palate with citrus rind and cherries in the aftertaste. A little lean, but attractive. From organically grown grapes. Drink now.”
89/100 Wine Enthusiast – “This has aromas of black plum, Mediterranean brush and mocha that carry over to the straightforward palate along with tobacco and polished tannins. Drink through 2025. “
